You don’t have to know how to code to start a club!
You just need a heart to help kids.
Typical questions for starting a club:
What is the first step to starting a coding club?
The easiest place to start is start volunteering in an existing club. Let us know before you come so we can give you an introduction before the meeting starts.
Do I need to know how to code?
Not at all. Many of the programs that are available help the kids solve their own problems. You can go as deep as you want to in learning the different learning tools. The most important thing to know is how to organize an event.
What facility do we use and must they have computers?
A facility is a must but computers are not. Each club has their own strengths. Some may have computers provided, some may require the kids to bring laptops. Since the clubs are a free community event, we can help you locate a business that may sponsor the event by letting you use their facilities and internet. Just let us know of your need.
What about liability and insurance?
We are in the process of working out how to provide these to the clubs. Currently this must be provided by the facility sponsor.
How much time commitment to run a club?
The time commitment can vary depending how much curriculum you want to present. At the minimum, you can simply use free online software to engage the kids and you can be there to simply assist in helping them when they get stuck. You will find they will start helping each other within just a couple weeks. At the minimum, you would only spend a couple hours a week for the meeting. But we hope you want to do more to push the kids further.
